Adult ESL Non Credit
AESL (Adult English as a Second Language) classes provide English and American culture lessons to help students at work and school, with their family, and in society. These are noncredit classes, which means there is no charge for the class and students only pay for parking, a health fee and class materials. Topics may include:
- Interviewing for a job
- Conferencing with a child's teacher
- U.S. Citizenship
- Filling out forms and applications
- Writing personal or professional emails
- Reading prescription labels and medication directions
- Learning about U.S. culture and government
AESL students practice their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in class while learning about English grammar, pronunciation, conversation, and vocabulary. Students also learn about U.S. culture and government and improve their computer skills by using English learning software in a computer lab one day a week.
Classes are about 10 hours a week (usually 3 hours a day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and meet in the morning, afternoon, or evening. We have five levels of classes from beginning to advanced. U.S. Citizenship Test Prep classes are also offered.
Students can also earn IVC English certificates of competency by completing a course sequence at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced level.
