Music Department

The Music Department at Irvine Valley College exemplifies the spirit of outstanding traditional music education and dynamic performance. The growing music curriculum encourages and trains students at all levels. From the general education student to the advanced performer there is a place for everyone at IVC. The IVC Chorale has earned a national reputation for innovative programming and musical excellence. The College's Wind Symphony, under the direction of Stephen Rochford performs to huge audiences throughout the year. They have commissioned many works, performed the world, state, or regional premieres of over 30 works since 1991, and has placed students in National and Regional CBDNA Intercollegiate Bands every year since 1999.

The Keyboard Department offers a vibrant program with outstanding, prize-winning faculty, top-of-the-line Steinway pianos, an Allen Quantum digital concert organ, and three harpsichords. The recently renovated stock of acoustic and digital instruments makes Irvine Valley College one of the few institutions in the area to own two Steinway D instruments on the main stage of the Performing Arts Center and studio Steinways in classrooms. Each year the department presents a busy schedule of piano, organ, and harpsichord concerts with IVC music faculty and renowned guest artists. The program offers classes in different levels (I, II, III, IV), as well as individual instruction for advanced students. Over the years, IVC music students have transferred successfully to major four-year institutions including CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, Chapman, UCLA, and UC Berkley. The school also has an active and awarded Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, and a thriving and growing Guitar Program.

Whether studying music as a student, performing, or enriching your life, the Music Department at IVC offers something for every musical need and taste.
