After nearly 14 years, The Ear is returning to the Orange County literary scene. We encourage submissions of poetry and prose from new and professional writers from the local area. We seek to include a diverse range of styles and content. We especially like work that pulls us into the moment, something that helps us see the world in a new way.
Submit a maximum of five poems or up to twenty pages of prose using our submission form. The work should be unpublished, and rights will revert back to the author after publication, with acknowledgement of The Ear upon future publication. Simultaneous submissions are welcomed, but we ask that you contact us immediately in case of acceptance elsewhere to withdraw your work from consideration.
Submissions are open now and will close on April 11.
Submissions should be in .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .pdf formats. Please do not put any identifying information on your work, but use the indicated field to include typical cover letter communications with your name and preferred contact information. We will read more about you and your work when we’re ready to contact you about it, but we want to give the work a chance to speak for itself first.
We are currently developing guidelines for artistic submissions, but we want to be sure we can present your work in the best way possible. For now, focus on your black-and-white work, as any internal art will not be printed in color.
We look forward to reading your writing, and hope to be in touch with you soon!
