Requirements for the Associate Degree in Chemistry
Students seeking an AA degree must complete a minimum of 60 units of credit, at least 12 of these at IVC; maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 ("C" average) for all work attempted; demonstrate competency in mathematics by completing Math 253 (Intermediate Algebra) or a higher-level course and competency in reading and writing by completing Writing 1; meet the general education requirements for the AA degree; and maintain continuous attendance at IVC (enroll in at least one course each academic year). See the IVC catalog or Counseling Office for more complete information about graduation requirements.
Students who plan to complete an associate degree with a major in chemistry will need to take four classes for 20 units:
* NOTE: Students who have not successfully completed high school chemistry should complete Chem. 3 prior to enrolling in Chem. 1A.
If you intend to Transfer
Courses that fulfill major requirements for an associate degree at Irvine Valley College may not be the same as those required for completing the major at a transfer institution offering a baccalaureate degree. If you plan to transfer to a four-year college or university, you should consult the catalog of your prospective transfer institution (see the IVC Transfer Center for assistance) and schedule an appointment with an IVC counselor to develop a plan of study before you begin your program.
